Don’t miss today’s Reno Lecture

A special Reno Lecture is scheduled today, Saturday, August 17, 2024, 1 to 2:30pm.

Debbie Hinman will be giving a fascinating lecture about the history of the HRPS Harvest of Homes Tour and will showcase select homes from every tour starting back in 2010. This program will be a great way to learn about homes in Old Reno and the Historic Reno Preservation Society.

The Harvest of Homes Tour is an annual event organized by the Historic Reno Preservation Society (HRPS). This tour showcases historic and unique properties in Reno, providing a glimpse into the city’s architectural and cultural heritage. Since this programs debut in 2010, HRPS has featured an incredible 52 different homes! Throughout the years, HRPS received requests from participants who missed some of the tours to “rerun” certain homes. Beginning in 2018 and 2019, they began including one “encore home” and last year, two encore homes were showcased.

Another addition to the tour occurred in 2018, HRPS decided to feature one adaptive reuse property on each future tour. It often happens that a structure that was once a home is given a new identity as an office, particularly when it occupies what has become a more commercial area of town. HRPS appreciates those buildings that throughout the years.

Speaker Bio:  Debbie Hinman is a Reno native and UNR graduate. She has been a researcher, writer, and tour guide with the Historic Preservation Society for the past 20 years and has been a commissioner on the city’s Historical Resources Commission since 2016.
