Title of Program: LaVere Redfield-Mystery, Money and Malstrom

Summary of Program: LaVere Redfield was an interesting character: a keen investor in the stock market and real estate; anti-government (especially the IRS); a ruthless businessman; a man who didn’t trust banks; a high-stakes gambler; a philanderer; a victim of at least two high-profile robberies; a man who hated to have his photo taken and a notorious hoarder. Using extensive research, local historians David & Gayle Woodruff examine the unusual and quirky story of one of Reno’s least known and eccentric “public” figures, in a 55-minute slide show.

Speaker Bio: David and Gayle Woodruff offer history programs throughout Lake Tahoe, the Carson Valley, and Eastern Sierra covering several topics, many times bringing their characters to life in a Chautauqua performance. The Woodruffs have written a series of three books about Highway 395 called El Camino Sierra, and a book on the Furnace Creek Resort. With a love of history, a deep fondness for their natural surroundings and a passion for all things 395, the two spend their time exploring, enjoying and writing about their beloved Eastern Sierra.
