State Museums Are Planning Unique Nevadan Experiences to Celebrate Nevada Day
(Nevada, USA) With most Nevada residents having Nevada Day, October 25, off as a state holiday, it’s a good time to visit and connect with our Silver State heritage at most of the state museums. Here is a list of all the activities planned around the holiday.
Southern Nevada
Boulder City, Nevada:
The Nevada State Railroad Museum, Boulder City is offering free train rides for children ages 17 and under on Friday, October 25, Saturday, October 26, and Sunday, October 27. Adult tickets are $12. Trains depart Boulder City at 10:00 a.m., 12:00. p.m., and 2:00 p.m. The museum is located at 601 Yucca Street.

Las Vegas, Nevada:
On Nevada Day, October 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas will host Nevada-themed crafts and discovery activities inside the Museum and out at the Springs Preserve. There will be surprise pop-ups in the gallery. Guests are encouraged to dress up in historical dress or as a state symbol. A new exhibit “Mapping Nevada: Tracing Nevada’s Statehood Through Maps” will be open to the public. The museum is located on the Springs Preserve campus, 333 South Valley View Boulevard.

Northern Nevada
Carson City, Nevada:
The Nevada State Railroad Museum will be offering free admission on Nevada Day, October 25, and the following day, October 26, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. As a special Nevada Day weekend treat, the museum will be operating the McKeen Motor Car. Fares for the McKeen Motor Car are: $12 ages 12 and over; $6 ages 4-11; and free for museum members and ages 3 and under. McKeen Car rides operate 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. each day. The Nevada State Museum, Carson City, located at 600 North Carson Street, will be offering free admission on Nevada Day, October 25, and the following day, October 26, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There will be Coin Press No. 1 minting demonstrations and interpretive talks in the historic Mint from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, and vouchers for half ounce .999 fine silver planchets will be sold in the Museum Store starting at 11:00 a.m. The Friends will also be dressed in costume while serving as docents at the Governor’s Mansion.

Reno, Nevada:
The Nevada Historical Society is hosting a lecture, “How Nevada Achieved Statehood: How Did It Do and What Was Its Legacy?” by local historian and former state Archivist, Jeff Kintop, on Wednesday, October 30, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Admission is $6, free for members. This special Nevada Day program examines the complexities of becoming a state. Nevada achieved statehood on October 31, 1864, and the lecture examines the work accomplished by the first state officials in office and what legacy was left for future Nevadans. The museum is located at 1650 North Virginia Street. (The museum is closed on 10/25, Nevada Day holiday.)
